...In this Second Edition we present a well-deserved tribute to the great Venezuelan Guitarist Alirio Diaz who is regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of our times and a champion of Latin-American Music in times when this repertoire wasn’t a part of the classical guitar concerts. A "euro centric" approach to the repertoire made it very hard for the music of Latin America to be accepted but slowly, Maestro Alirio Diaz, thanks to his clever arrangements, his great taste for selecting the appropriate repertoire and his profound insight in this music, made it not only accepted but enjoyed by audiences all over the world.
It is our honor, therefore, to celebrate his legacy in this Second Edition of what we intend to be a new Washington tradition: the Ibero-American Serenade to the Capital City...

...Saskia Jordá's sculptural installation "[karto gra'fia]" hangs from the ceiling near the entrance to the gallery, near SPACE's front wall of windows. Bathed in light from the street, Jordá's work is the show's clearest metaphor for the complexity of a bilingual personal and artistic identity. Born in Venezuela, Jordá moved to the United States as a teenager and presently is based in rural Wisconsin. Her three-part work, executed entirely in handmade felt, consists of two life-size doors - one white with a red knob, the other red with a white knob - facing each other a few feet apart...

Durante el Mes de la Herencia Hispana, la Casa de Venezuela  Valle Delaware  se enorgullese en presentar Expresiones de Venezuela 2008.

Expresiones de Venezuela 2008 es el evento estelar de la Casa de Venezuela que presenta a artistas, músicos y bailarines de Venezuela y Latinoamérica residentes en el Valle Delaware. Este año el evento se realizara el domingo, 12 de Octubre, en el centro de artes Painted Bride, localizado en el 230 de la calle Vine en Filadelfia, PA, 19106

Dentro del selecto grupo de artistas que se presentaran están:

•     El Ensamble de Música de la Casa de Venezuela
•     El grupo de Danzas Tradicionales Venezolanas de la  Casa de Venezuela
•     El Ensamble de cuerdas Arcos de Venezuela, cuyos miembros pertenecieron a la famosa Orquesta Juvenil Simon Bolívar &
•     El grupo de tambores venezolanos Tambores de San Juan.

Estos artistas presentaran una serie de piezas musicales y de danzas que mostraran la rica herencia folklórica de Venezuela, el tema de este año son Las Fiestas Tradicionales de Venezuela. Expresiones de Venezuela 2008, sumergirá a la audiencia en las diversas influencias musicales, tal como las influencias indígenas, afro-caribena, europea y árabe, solo por nombrar algunas, que prevalecen en la cultura Latinoamericana.

Though this local Afro-Cuban ensemble doesn't have much recorded history to make for much copy, one look at the names on the group's roster shows the music is pretty serious. Among the notable members is Venezuelan-born saxophonist Ed Calle, who boasts a long history both as a leader and a sideman with the likes of Negroni's Trio, Arturo Sandoval, Frank Sinatra, Vanessa Williams, and countless others. In addition to his work with Palo!, he also leads the Fuego Caliente Latin Jazz Orchestra. And if that isn't enough to keep him out of trouble, he also is associate professor of music business and production at Miami Dade College....

...‘We are collaborating with up-and-coming illustrators and designers to produce our own range of clothing. The first designs, are t-shirts. The first by Paris and Tokyo based illustrator J*WLS, and the second by Venezuelan born, New York based designer Yker Moreno. The t-shirts are limited to only 50 units each, and every tee has a unique handwritten number on the rear, just like you would see on an art print’...

...The exhibit, on display throughout September, collects 30 years of work from Venezuelan-born artist Gloriela Araujo. Araujo is no stranger to art exhibits at the library - as the owner of the El Taller Art Space, her young students have worked on yearly exhibitions for the library.

To Araujo, the 22 paintings on display have a common theme: evolution.

"Every artist has to evolve," she said. "You can't stay in one era, and you have to use different techniques."...

Gigi Mederos is a Venezuelan-born artist who shows regularly in the New England area.

Through much of her work, her detailed and minute strokes serve to depict a very intimate and minuscule world, as seen through her “microscope eyes”.
