Rail Walk Studios & Gallery (RWS&G) is located in the Rail Walk Arts District of Historic Downtown Salisbury, North Carolina, and is housed  in a former warehouse near the restored Salisbury railroad depot. The brainchild of artist Marietta Foster Smith, Rail Walk Studios & Gallery opened in September 2006. Currently, there are seven artists leasing space:  Jimmy Lee Alston, Carol Dunkley, Sharon Forthofer, Norma Velásquez-Frink, Annette Ragone Hall, Patt Legg, and Marietta Foster Smith.

Each of the RWS&G artists has a unique style and body of work. Visitors will find original paintings in watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel, and other types of mediums, as well as sculpture and pottery, making RWS&G a great place to purchase a wide variety of original art. Some of the artists also offer reasonably priced reproductions of their work. In addition to her artwork, Sharon Forthofer also offers a giclée-reproduction service to artists and photographers.

The Looking Glass Art Collective, a new arts organization founded this year, has leased space next door to Rail Walk Studios & Gallery. They  opened in July 2008.  Cascade Sculptures , which features original metal sculptures by artists Keith Collins and Katherine Apple, is also located next door. As the historic brick buildings on N Lee St. are gradually transformed from warehouses into spaces for artists and complementary retail businesses, including restaurants, the Rail Walk arts district will continue to expand.

Rail Walk Gallery is open Tuesday—Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

We are also open by appointment.

Note: there are two side-by-side entrances to Rail Walk, one at 409 N. Lee St., and the other at 413 N. Lee St.  Free parking is available in two lots, which are on opposite corners of the intersection of E. Kerr and N. Lee streets. Parking is also available behind the building.
