...David Foote, Venezuelan artist about town, is embarking on his next exploration: the vast world of consumerism. He’s bringing high art to a city near you -- large metropolises and one-horse towns alike. All through the magic that is the Internets. Pairing with names such as: Marianella Soaps, Izola, Barterhouse Wines, KCDC Skateshop, Alternative Apparel, Ortolan, Tuleste Jewelery, Timo Neckwear, 4FRNT Skis, and design boutique Bo Concept, David Foote released the Limited Edition No. 10 collection in Bo Concept retail locations and online...
...The Gallery welcomes New York-based Venezuelan artist Javier Téllez to New Zealand for the first time.
The work of Téllez reflects a sustained interest in bringing peripheral communities and invisible situations to the fore of contemporary art. His work deals with institutional dynamics, mental illness as a marginal condition, and borderline collective and individual behaviour. His projects have often involved working in collaboration with mental health patients or people living at the margins of society who at times are invited to contribute as participants...
Carolina Herrera presented a stunning autumn/winter collection at Bryant Park on Monday morning.
Venezuelan-born Carolina Herrera is best known
for her glamorous evening dresses. Her autumn/winter collection
reflected exactly this kind of glamourous, elegant and sophisticated
style with a range of gowns, slim skirts and tight pants with high
waists...
...On Saturday evening, Mr. Tiempo opened his recital with a characterful reading of Bach’s First Partita. His pianistic approach, romanticized intonation, as well as the fervent articulation, were a kind of rarity that can only be found under Teimpo’s hands. In the opening Prelude, he decorated the filigree with utmost dexterity and ingenuity. In the slow Sarabande, every note was sung with a crystalline voice. The spontaneous and extemporaneous Gigue was a vivid contrast to Andras Schiff’s exquisitely and finely controlled reading of the same movement in last year’s Arts Festival...
...Inside the Kucera Gallery, Bluntzer’s paintings are vibrant, abstract landscapes providing a playground for your eyes and a pathway to our emotions.
Tacking descriptive words to her studio wall " exuberance, amorphous, enigmatic " helped Bluntzer expand her already colorful palette into a more intense and emotional range of hues. She used these verbal reminders to help her stay focused to where she envisioned her paintings should go. Life, like Bluntzer’s processes in her studio, is often more productive with focus and tenacity...
...I was assigned to write a designer profile for the jeweler's trade publication, JQ International. When I cover fashion, I expect to focus on the designer's artistic process and inspiration. For Miami-based designer J.R. de Bellard, travel, art and culture turned out to be all a part of his process. Born in Venezuela and raised in Paris, J.R. mixes fascinating elements of his interests and background into his jewelry. His Ghana collection, featuring Adinkra symbols, sharks teeth, bear claws and rubies, blew me away...
Mystery! Sex! Religion! Politics! Military maneuvers! All those and more are found in the magical realism of Venezuelan painter Alfredo Arcia, whose subject matter often defies explanation or analysis but never fails to jolt the imagination.
In "El Arresto," one of the artist’s least complicated compositions, armed soldiers in combat gear debark a military truck, apparently heading for a strolling bride and bridegroom still in wedding attire. In the foreground is an excavated trench containing the shattered remains of a Corinthian column and sculpture of Pan, the Greek god associated with fertility. Two pipes, possibly water mains, cross the trench...
Carlos Bertonatti's smooth faint rasp voice is enough to make any woman gravitate to him. And his chiseled cheeks, dark eyes and light chocolate skin make looking at him almost painful.
On Feb. 7, in the corner of Mosgo's Coffee Shop in Arcata, dressed in a black sweatshirt and blue jeans smelling of bonfire, the multilayered singer exposed his soul. Whether he is aware of it or not, his looks are enough to shoot him up to the top...
