The group was founded in 1970 by Tina Ramirez, who was born in
Venezuela to a Mexican bullfighter and a Puerto Rican educator. She
moved to the United States at the age of 7 and started to study dance.
After touring the world, she became a teacher herself.
"I started teaching in 1963 because my childhood dance instructor,
Lola Bravo, decided to retire. While her student, I told her I wanted

...But Venezuelan-born De Frutos has surpassed himself with his latest reinvention: he has just become artistic director of Phoenix Dance Theatre, a small, Leeds-based company known less, perhaps, for its creative brilliance than for its earnest service as Britain's leading black dance company. "The term 'worthy' comes to mind," says De Frutos, "and I can safely say worthy is not in my plans."...
Every year, the Venezuelan-born Seba delivers short courses at Auckland University, delivering the same material he presents at his native Stanford University in California. He helps his students, mostly mid-career professionals, find a market, package their products and find partners to help those products succeed.
“It’s not a lecture,” he says. “I learn as much as I give. I’m challenged all the time.” ...

...La Casa de Pedro moved from a tiny room where the kitchen was open because there was no space for it elsewhere and where the owner, Pedro Alarcón, and his relatives passed dishes over the heads of diners in the cramped dining areas. Now he's in a handsome restaurant in the old Watertown Arsenal, a setting so expansive that there is a live palm tree near the entrance. There's a long bar, the better to serve frothy margaritas and other drinks, and an interesting list of wines from Chile, Argentina, and beyond. And the cooks are still visible working away but now in a big, glassed-in kitchen..
